Self MOTIVATION Tips That Actually Work For STUDENTS 2021! | MegsCoffeeBreak

Self motivation is something that has affected us all at some point in our lives. Some people are able to snap their head into place and get things done where as there are others who struggle to get out of bed in the morning. It’s me. I struggle to get out of bed in the morning. However, lockdown has definitely taught me one or two things about self motivation because we have all had to rely on ourselves for motivation; there hasn’t been a reason to get up and have a shower. As time has passed, I’ve gathered a few tips and tricks I use to pick myself up out of a rut and to kickstart my life into being productive. I’m here to share them with you so keep reading if you need a little help when it comes to self motivation.

Setting a Routine

Routines come in all shapes and sizes. Firstly, I’m going to recommend going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day. Whether you choose to wake up at 5AM or 11AM, by having this set schedule you are making sure you’re getting enough sleep which is so important. Furthermore, once you get into the habit of having a routine once you do wake up, you’ll be set to do whatever it is you need to get done every single day. This might take some trial and error. Are you best off doing a workout first or getting on with some work? Do you like to read before you get on with your day? Have a play around with different routines for a few weeks to find out what works best for you.

Todo Lists

I’m never going to stop preaching todo lists. I make them once if not twice or more a day. I cannot function without a todo list. For someone who gets quite worked up about the small things, having everything laid out infront of me really calms any stress that has been built up. I will make a weekly to do list and every single day I will take pieces from that todo list and make a daily list. You’re less likely to forget about things you really need to do that way. The reason the todo lists will give you motivation is because you can actually visualise which tasks you’re looking forward to the most and least. Therefore, all of the big, scary tasks seem more manageable as you can spread them out throughout the week. It will also satisfy you when it comes to ticking off the todo list. You’ll want to tick everything off which means you will want to do all the tasks you have written down (to a certain extent).

Journalling

I started journalling last spring and I felt very out of my depth; I didn’t know what I was supposed to write about or how it would help me in any way, shape or form. There was just so much hype surroudning journalling which made me stick to it to see if I would get any improvement from it. When I started, it was literally the middle of a national lockdown so I really didn’t have much to say. However, the more time that passed, the more I found myself writing and the less I had locked up in my head. This is motivating because if you journal in the morning and clear your head, you’ll be ready to start your day with minimal worries. I can’t recommend this enough.

Positive thinking books

The first positivity book I read was The Secret and it made me obsessed with the genre of ‘positivity’. It is such a great form of motivation because even reading one single page will completely shift your mood and your entire mindset for the day. Some other positivity books I would recommend are Good Vibes, Good Life & The Rules of Life. Honestly, reading these books will change the entire game for you and you will begin to see things in a different light. They will allow you to let go of any negativity in your life and you will gain a new perspective. You can boost your motivation in the morning by reading a few pages of any positive thinking books and it will boost you for the day.

DRINKING WATER

This one might sound a bit stupid but I will always recommend drinking water, no matter what topic I’m discussing. The first thing I do in the morning is drink water. If you’re feeling sleepy, it is a great way to wake yourself up. It’s also great for you mentally- for some reason you immediately feel healthy and productive for guzzling down some water in the morning (that might just be me). Also, it’s so important to drink water before coffee in the morning. You don’t want to start working before you’ve hydrated because you just won’t be able to maintain the productivity. Coffee definitely helps (I tell myself because I drink about 5 cups a day) but water helps so much more.

YOUTUBE VIDEOS

These help me so much! There are so many different types of videos you can watch on Youtube which will immediately boost your productivity. For example, Study with me; A productive day in my life; A day in my life as a student. They are just 3 of many videos you can watch to get you into the motivated mind set. This one comes will lots of self restraint, however. You don’t want to get stuck down the rabbit hole of watching Youtube videos for hours and hours. I’ve been there, done that and I can tell you that it just doesn’t make you feel good. Watching a video whilst you have your breakfast will automatically get you in the right mindset.

Keeping a balanced diet

My final tip is to keep a balanced diet. I don’t have much to say about this one apart from the fact that when you don’t eat healthy, you don’t feel healthy. Now, I’m not saying you have to eat salads for every meal but I am suggesting you cut down on the junk food and takeaways. I understand how hard it is to keep a balanced diet as a student and if that’s something you’re struggling with, let me know if that’s a blogpost you would like to see in the future. I have lots of meal ideas which are cheap and healthy I can share with you! When you feel good in your body, you will feel good to be productive and to work hard!

I hope these tips will help you keep motivated and producted. If you have any other tips to stay motivated, I would love to hear them in the comments! Thank you for the reading and I wish you all the best in making every day the most productive you can.
