Ranking The Entire MCU From Best To Worst! | MegsCoffeeBreak

Click here for what Movies & TV Shows you NEED to be streaming in 2021!

It’s no secret that I am obsessed with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Personally, I don’t trust anybody who doesn’t watch it! It’s seriously like a 23 part TV show- except they’re all films. However, as much as I could praise Marvel all day long, I must admit not all of the movies live up to the standard. So I’ve decided to sit down and rank them all (including WandaVision). Also, just a PSA!!! This is a matter of opinion and I don’t want to be hated for not enjoying some movies which are loved by others. Also, sit tight because this is going to be a long post. So let’s start with the worst, shall we?

24. The Incredible Hulk

I feel as though I don’t need to say much about The Incredible Hulk apart from the fact I just didn’t enjoy it. First of all, the actor for Bruce Banner was completely different to the rest of the MCU which is just confusing. The CGI isn’t as good as the rest of the movies & also the acting wasn’t up to standard. Personally, The Hulk would never be my favourite superhero so the standard for the movies should be particularly high to gain my interest. If you’re going to watch the MCU through, I wouldn’t even recommend watching it- don’t waste your time.

23. Ant Man

I do feel kind of guilty putting Ant Man this low down because I enjoyed the films. However, compared to the other stand-alone movies of the MCU, it just doesn’t compare. I love the idea of Ant-Man; I think it’s good that he’s a criminal gone good scenario because that’s something different for the MCU. However, I just don’t like the bugs and a lot of the scenes freak me out. The idea of shrinking and growing big is amazing but I’m not a fan of the whole bug and ant situation. We already have spider-man, we didn’t need another insect. Also, I genuinely believe he was brought into the MCU just for his role in Endgame. I wonder if they will do any more with his character.

22. Thor: The dark world

It could be argued that this should go below Ant-Man (Ant-Man is a better film) but in all honesty, I have a crush on Thor. He is by far my favourite superhero and so he is biased from my opinion. As films go, it’s not the best, we all know that. The introduction of the Aether (later known as the reality stone) is clearly important to the story line but other than that it’s just a bit rubbish. I love Thor and I love his other movies but this one just doesn’t do it for me.

21. Spider-man: Homecoming

What I really like about this being the first Spider-Man movie to enter the MCU is the fact it isn’t his origin story. When it was first announced that Spider-Man was coming into the MCU, the first thing I thought was that it would just be another film that we’ve already seen played by Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield so I will give it praise that it wasn’t just the same-old thing. However, as much as I did enjoy the movie I felt as though it just didn’t have an amazing villain and was just very samey to every other MCU film. For Spider-Man to be introduced, it could have been really good and it didn’t hit the mark.

20. Ant Man and The Wasp

Originally I was going to put Ant Man and The Wasp lower than Ant Man but I actually rewatched it recently and I enjoyed it a lot more than I once did. For it to be released after Infinity War, I think the standards were so high and it didn’t hit the level it could have. It was as though the hype just got kind of squashed. The post credit scene was very key to the storyline, obviously setting up what happened in Endgame. However, the film as a whole just isn’t as good as some of the others. It does get a lot of unnecessary hate, however- it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

19. Black Panther

This is a really good film. Introducing Wakanda was really good for the MCU. The whole culture behind it was really interesting to see as well as some of the insane technology we hadn’t seen before. The cast is great and the acting was insane, Chadwick Boseman was a really good choice and probably perfect for the role; Michael B Jordan was great as the villain too. However, it’s this low down because it’s just less enjoyable to watch compared to the others. The storyline is lacking throughout, however it ends very nicely and is a good sum up of all the characters. It’s an interesting one which I really struggled to place, I feel different people have very different opinions on this movie.

18. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I know you’re seeing this and hating me so much right now, but hear me out. My favourite part of the MCU is to do with the galaxy and space. Therefore, a story about a war hero just isn’t my cuppa tea. I find this film to be a very forgettable part of the MCU; as much as it was great reintroducing a character and turning him evil, I feel like there could have been so much more. The ending is quite plain and by this point in the MCU, there could have been a lot more excitement.

17. Captain Marvel

Before you start, I know so many people hate Captain Marvel! However, I think she gets a lot of slack for no reason. She is very overpowered and she definitely needs more character development but we’ve only seen the first of her movies so far. The difference in Tony Stark from the start to end is very different and I assume that will come over time with Carol. The Kree are an interesting group which I think can add a lot to the MCU. The actual villain has a good plot twist but he is very forgettable, he definitely isn’t a stand out villain out of all the movies. Seeing Fury in this film is very interesting and probably the best part. I really didn’t mind it but again, it’s not one of the best.

16. Captain America: The First Avenger

As previously mentioned, the Captain America movies are not my favourite which is the sole reason I’ve ranked this film kind of poorly. I feel they are just not as spectacular as some of the others. I’m not knocking the character or the storyline because I still really enjoy watching Captain America. However, it would never be the first ones I would go to watch. The only time I will choose to watch it would be if I’m going through the whole timeline. I’m putting it higher than the other ones because of how important Cap is to the MCU and also Chris Evans is a fittie.

15. Iron Man 2

Iron Man has entered the chat. Iron Man 2 is the worst Iron Man movie out of the three and its standard just didn’t reach the expectation from the first Iron Man. The first one was iconic and this film just didn’t match it. Saying that, I think Whiplash was a very interesting villain and was something slightly different. I also think that Justin Hammer was a good character to watch. It was interesting seeing the almost 2 separate storylines play out through the film as opposed to just the one evil person. It’s very enjoyable just not as good as the other 2.

14. Spider-Man: Far From Home

The concept of this film is really good, the villain is amazing (both the fake and real villain). The idea of having multiple Earth’s was very clever and so believable within the MCU. The whole concept could have been amazing if it didn’t turn out the way it actually did. Peter really learns who he is in this film and his skills get so much better throughout to a very noticeable extent. The features of not only Iron Man and Happy are great but Nick Fury is in it too. There are some big people in it! It did an alright explanation of how things returned to normal after the snap also with the whole school situation. Especially where one of the characters had grown older and glown up and others had been blipped and are exactly the same. It isn’t higher because the other films are just better.

13. Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3 is better than Iron Man 2 because the storyline is way more interesting than Iron Man 2 but it’s not as good as the first Iron Man because it’s just not that classic original movie. The whole idea of having lots of suits flying about which were already made by Tony was so good and it was really fun to watch. It was a good final film for Iron Man, another one would have been too much. It was a great end to the trilogy. It’s not higher because I feel it is quite a forgettable film in the MCU but it’s this high up because all the Iron Man movies do just set a really high standard and are all very well made.

12. Doctor Strange

I really enjoy Doctor Strange! This is the turning point for me where all the movies I am about to talk about are so good and the ratings became really hard from this point. First the character development of Stephen Strange is massive, he basically becomes a different person by the end of it. The character of Doctor Strange was so different to the MCU and really was good to see. It was the first time we were introduced to the time stones properly and opened the doors to lots of different storylines to do with magic and multiverses. I’m very excited to see what more will happen with Doctor Strange as I think some of the potential storylines could be amazing.

11. Guardians of the Galaxy

Introducing the Guardians was the best decision Marvel ever made. They are all such a good set of characters; none of them are similar to anything we saw beforehand. When the movies were released I think they were very underrated but the Guardians fandom know what’s up because they bring amazing comic relief to the MCU. I feel as though when we hit Guardians in the timeline, Marvel really knows what a good movie needs. There’s a lot more fun scenes and humor which is something the older movies don’t really have and I think it’s a great addition.

10. Thor

A lot of people don’t like Thor and they compare it to the second Thor film which, as we have found out, I don’t rate very highly. However, I really do like the first Thor film. When watching in release order, he is the first person who brings some real magic into the MCU. We see Asgard and we learn about realms and Thor himself is a God! It’s the first time we really realised that the MCU has huge potential. There’s huge character development from Thor throughout the film and as much as I don’t think Jane is the best love interest out of all of the films, it was interesting to see how she shaped his views. Personally, I think it was a very good opening film for him, it’s just a shame the second one did not live up to standard.

9. Iron Man

This is a very good opening character film. This movie is years old and the film that really started it all. The development of not only Tony Stark but everyone in this film is so good and it just was an eye opener of what Marvel could really do in the future. The ‘I am Iron Man’ at the end of the film is just the beginning of a whole range of movies to come and it really makes you see the potential of everything. The nostalgia of this film is what has made me rank it so highly. Iron Man will always be one of the favourite Avengers of every one. This film is just so iconic.

8. Captain America: Civil War

Civil war is a great movie with such a good plot! I found it very difficult choosing between Civil War and Age of Ultron here because they’re both just so good. This film introduces some great characters into the MCU such as Black Panther and Spider-Man and this gives some great comic relief. Both Ant-Man and Spider-Man have some really funny lines throughout this film. This introduction of new characters sets up some great future movies for the MCU. Also, the built up conflict between the Avengers finally comes out and we get to see the rival fight between all the characters which was good to see. I have ranked it just below Age of Ultron just because I think the tension just before this film really hits a breaking point and it’s really good to see in The Avengers 2.

7. Avengers: Age of Ultron

It does feel like a crime rating this film above Civil War but I do just have a guilty pleasure for Age of Ultron. I think having the villain come from a mistake one of the Avengers made was such a good plot twist and really set up the next few films. We got to see the superhero’s in a different light here and it really showed that the one’s we had seen up to that point are only human and not the best at what they do. The introduction of Pietro and Wanda was also really great in this movie- new characters are always a good thing. Also, look how far Wanda specifically has come now. Vision was also introduced in this movie who has become a big part of the MCU. I do just love Age of Ultron as it was different to what was shown before. They weren’t just saving the day perfectly as they usually do.

6. The Avengers

ICONIC. Compared to films that have been released since, it isn’t as good as some of the future movies. This was the first time we got to see the superheroes come together and meet everyone. It was so revolutionary and it really was what everybody was waiting for. Loki in this film is amazing and for the time, some of the scenes were just insane! It gave a glimpse of what could happen in the future and left it on a good note. Seeing the relationships between all of the superheroes was really good and it is just a sick film to be honest. It’s also the first time we see Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner instead of Edward Norton and he really portrays The Hulk a lot better than we had previously seen.

5. WandaVision

You might be wondering why I’ve put WandaVision so high on my list but I am obsessed! For the first proper series that the MCU have introduced, it is really good. Having watched it all the way through, it’s done some wonderful setting up for the future phases. There has been a lot of development in Monica Rambo for the future Captain Marvel movies and it has definitely set up a lot for the future Doctor Strange movies. As a series I think it has done exactly what we needed it to do and it has definitely made us a lot more excited to see what is to come. Leaving us confused for a while and then slowly letting us into what actually has been going on was really clever. The secret villain was really clever. The development of Wanda into The Scarlet Witch was really clever. Marvel are at the point where they know what they’re doing and they know how to make people mind-blown and excited. It was a really great series in my opinion and I literally cannot wait to see how the story unfolds from here out.

4. Avengers: Endgame

I like Endgame and I think it is a fantastic film but it starts so slowly! That is the only thing I have to say about Endgame, I wish the action started a lot sooner than it actually did. The second half is filled with excitement. There’s so many plot twists and to go back in time to previous movies really made the nostalgia high considering it was the finale to the Infinity phase. The feelings between the characters were so good and it really was a great way to end this particular era of the MCU. It was exciting, funny when it needed to be and really emotional when it needed to be. If it didn’t have such a slow start then it would definitely be higher than 4th place. That one fight scene would top the list if the rest of the movie was good.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2

I will admit that I rate the Guardians so highly but I am so obsessed with them, the second movie especially. I think the story is so interesting, seeing a half-human, half-alien was really good for the MCU as they’re normally either human OR alien. The development of Quill and Gamora’s relationship is really fun to watch throughout this movie. Having the main character be so close to the villain was interesting to see because it brought in a lot of feelings. Also, Quill having a second father figure in Yondu and the development between those two is really good. Again, all the characters in Guardians are amazing and different to what we normally see. BABY GROOT! I don’t even need to say anything about Groot in this. The soundtrack is amazing. Drax and Mantis’ relationship development is fun. Just everything about this film is great! So so so good!

2. Thor: Ragnarok

This new style of Thor film was executed perfectly! They did exactly what needed to be done with Thor and made it funny. The first 2 Thor films are good enough (the second is debatable as we’ve already discussed) but this change in everything was perfect! Nobody expected The Hulk to be in it and the fact he just appears is so funny! I think Valkyrie is a great character and is played by a wonderful actress- I definitely prefer her to Jane as a female character as there’s just more to her and she is actually from Asgard originally. Also, the villain is insane! Having a sibling as a villain was so clever because it really makes the relationship development between Thor and Loki so much more prominent. The fire villain at the end makes for some really cool scenes and Thor just becomes so strong throughout the film. The grandmaster is hilarious and Korg is probably my favourite character ever in the MCU, he has some great lines and the script writer’s deserve so much credit.

1. Avengers: Infinity War

I don’t think there was anyone who was doubting me putting this first. It is probably the best film I have ever watched. I feel like I have so much to say about this movie so grab your popcorn. The hype before this film was massive and it was so exciting discussing everybody’s theories. This movie is just full of action, you can’t take your eyes off the screen for even a minute because you’ll miss something- even after watching it about 15 times now. The relationships between all the different Avengers was so interesting to see. I think the bond between Thor and The Guardians is so good! With both of those being my favourite stand-alone films, I’m so happy they have united and it will be so interesting to see the relationship between Thor and Quill. Doctor Strange is just so OP in this movie, as well as Wanda. There are some amazing fight scenes all throughout. Starting with The Hulk, the fight on Thanos’ ship then the Wakanda fight scene with Thor coming in and just being so overpowered. The entire film is insane with such huge plot twists. The ending was amazing- actually seeing them lose a fight was so good to see and it really sparked so much hype for Endgame. The film was so well made and I really could talk about it all day.

So that’s it! How I would rank the MCU. Like I previously mentioned, this is all a matter of opinion and if your thoughts differ, I would love to hear what you think and what your order would be! I’m SO excited to see what comes out in the future, the next one is Falcon and The Winter Soldier. I’m not as excited for this one (because as you’ve just seen I was never a Captain America fan). However, I will still be watching it every Friday just like we all have with WandaVision. The bar is high for this one. It’s going to be a great year for Marvel so make sure you get your Disney+ subscriptions and your snacks ready every week for the next years worth of Marvel content!

  1. Great post! I agree with Wandavision and avengers infinity war being placed at the top because I love both of them! I would probably place the Spider-Man movies higher on my ranking but I think this is pretty similar to mine!
